What is Sialendoscopy?
Sialendoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure where in a very small sized endoscope, of the size 0.75 mm is passed through the salivary ductal system to diagnose pathologies like stone, debris, strictures, or stenosis. This is termed as Diagnostic Sialendoscopy. Following which these pathologies are addressed by dilatation of stenotic/stricture segments or removal of stone from the ductal system by the means of basket/ optical forcep, this is termed as a therapeutic sialendoscopy. With Dr. Dhawal Shah’s adept skills in performing Sialendoscopy led him to the foundation of First Private Set-Up for Sialendoscopy in Gujarat, at Dhawal Multispecialty Hospital, Vadodara.

Following which the patient is subjected for a diagnostic sialendoscopy
However there’s nothing to worry and stress as its rest assured by Dr. Dhawal because at Dhawal Multispecialty Hospital, Vadodara the doctor himself and his staff members are very welcoming and takes care of the patient efficiently without facing much difficulty.
How Long does swelling last after a Sialendoscopy ?
If it's a diagnostic sialendoscopy, then there is minimal swelling which is there in the floor of the mouth or in the parotid region . It can stay up to 2 to 3 hours, and after which the patient can have normal food.
Secondly, in the case of therapeutic sialendoscopy the swelling after the surgery - depends upon the extent of the surgery. If it is just the basketing of the stone, then the swelling may stay up to 4 to 6 hours. And in such cases the patient should take liquid diet and soft meals, and in the following 2-3 days the swelling will subside. If a combined intraoral approach is used for retrieving big stones of size varying from 1 cm up to 2 cm, then the post operative swelling would stay for at least 5-6 days, gradually enabling the patient to restore to normal within a week.
When Sialendoscopy should not be done?
An acute case of sialadenitis denotes acute inflammation in the salivary gland and the ductal system, which is treated conservatively with the help of antibiotics & analgesics - sialendoscopy is ‘seldom performed during such acute episodes’.
Once the patient is asymptomatic, he/she undergoes diagnostic sialendoscopy.
